Varying Psychological Impacts of COVID-19 and Functional/Dysfunctional Coping Strategies: A Mixed-Method Approach

The current focus on the transmission of COVID-19 infection all over world may probably distract public attention from psychosocial consequences outbreak in affected individuals and general population. However, there is limited empirical information about its psychological impact people diverse regions nationalities. Hence, study aims to understand impacts associated pandemic distress demographically Indian population ways are adopting cope with them. A total 261 respondents aged 18−73 years, representing more than 17 states India, filled an electronic survey questionnaire. Survey research methodology following mixed-method approach both qualitative quantitative methodologies was adopted. Results first phase indicated significant during three weeks lockdown, especially anxiety social isolation. Physical health, fitness, self-care, family connect, learning new skill sets self-growth opportunity were found be some functional this phase, whereas passive acceptance expressed as a dysfunctional strategy coupled negative emotions such fear, anxiety, frustration irritability for others. two 20% sixth week lockdown revealed exhaustion efforts increasing frustration. great proportion fear losing global business scenario direct or indirect need consistent dedicated mental health care recommended.
